backronym.

Random letters.
Ridiculous phrases.

Backronym is a multiplayer word game by Steve McGuigan. Everyone gets the same letters. You turn them into a phrase, then the room votes for its favorites.

For example, C A T could become Clouds Ate Tuesday. Clever, silly or completely unexpected: make your answer worth a vote.

Get a room together

Press play, choose a nickname, and create or join a game. A room supports up to 10 players. Use a private game to play with friends, and share its invitation only with people you want to join. The host starts the game when the group is ready.

How a game works

  1. Write. Make a phrase whose words start with the displayed letters, in order. The standard answer timer is 60 seconds.
  2. Vote. Read the room's answers and pick your favorite. Voting has its own timer.
  3. See the results. Scores are revealed between rounds. Keep playing through seven rounds to find the winner.

The game works in your browser. On a phone, use the on-screen keyboard. Keep the game tab open if you want to reconnect after a brief connection interruption.

Keep it fun

Do not post harassment, threats, hateful content, sexual content involving minors, spam or anyone's private information. Player-written content appears live and is not reviewed in advance. This game is not designed for children under 13.

Help or report a problem

Email help@backronym.app for support, privacy requests or abuse reports. For a bug, include your device and browser, what happened, and roughly when. For an abuse report, include the room and approximate time plus a screenshot if appropriate. Do not send passwords or unnecessary personal information.

Reports are reviewed by the operator, not an automated emergency service. Because games are temporary, a complete history may no longer be available. Leave the room if you do not want to continue participating.
