Give the letters
a better meaning.

Backronym gives every player the same letters and one minute to turn them into a phrase. The words must begin with those letters in order. When time is up, the room reads the anonymous answers and votes for a favorite.

1. Make or join a room

Press play and choose a nickname. Create a game to become the host, or join a private game from a friend's invitation. Private invitations contain a room key, so share them only with the people you want in the room. A room supports up to 10 players.

The host can wait for everyone to arrive and then start the game. Players should keep the game open in one browser tab; opening the same room repeatedly can create confusion about which connection is current.

2. Write your answer

Read the letters from left to right. Your first word begins with the first letter, your second word with the second letter, and so on. Punctuation and capitalization are there to help the joke, but they do not change the required sequence.

S N A P

Spiders Need Apartment Parking follows the prompt.

Spiders Apartment Need Parking does not, because A and N are reversed.

Submit before the timer expires. On a phone, the game's on-screen keyboard is tuned for quick phrase entry. It enlarges the touch targets of plausible next letters behind the scenes, but it never removes letters or writes an answer for you.

3. Vote for a favorite

After writing ends, the answers are shown without turning the round into a popularity contest about who wrote what. Pick the phrase you genuinely like best. You cannot improve your own score by explaining an answer after the reveal, so make the phrase do the work.

4. Follow the score

Votes become points and the round results show how the room decided. A standard game lasts seven rounds. Consistency helps, but one answer that wins the room can change the standings quickly. The final scoreboard names the winner after the last vote.

Writing answers people remember

Find a tiny scene

A phrase becomes easier to picture when the words imply a character, action or consequence. “Cats Acquire Trombones” gives the room an image; a disconnected list of nouns usually does not.

Commit to one tone

Dry, dramatic, absurd and oddly specific answers can all work. Choose one direction and push it far enough to feel intentional. A confident strange answer is often more memorable than a cautious sensible one.

Use the difficult letter as the turn

Do not spend the whole timer fighting an awkward Q, X or Z. Build the phrase toward it. A surprising final word can act like a punch line, and a familiar name or sound may be fair game if your room understands it.

Write for this room

Friends may reward a shared reference while a new group may prefer something universally readable. The players are the judges, so there is no single optimal vocabulary or house style.

Good room etiquette

Keep nicknames and answers fun for the people who agreed to play. Do not submit harassment, threats, hateful content, private information, or sexual content involving minors. Live player content is not reviewed before it appears. Leave a room that is no longer enjoyable and report serious problems to help@backronym.app.
